Energy storage and solar plants

We are working with a Swiss company to test the use of a battery made with salt to store solar energy in Africa Batteries made with salt have the important advantages of being environmentally friendly (100 % recyclable) and not containing materials such as lithium or cobalt whose extraction causes problems. This type of battery has been in existence for a long time but is used only in heavy industry. Once started, a battery made with salt must operate continuously.

We are working with the Gacha Foundation in Cameroon on applied testing. The Foundation’s training centre will be converted to solar energy, stored in salt batteries.

At the same time, many solar plants are being installed by our partner African Solar Generation in Cameroon. Most of the infrastructure is isolated and solar power enables it to have energy independence. Among the buildings equipped are a children’s home, customs posts and 23 microfinance centres in rural areas.
