USING WATA™ DEVICES IN WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS – A NEW CONCEPT
Chlorination of drinking water systems is the most efficient way to provide drinking water to rural populations in developing countries.
Antenna together with its field partners has developed and implemented a plan for a production facility and a description of the procedures for implementing WATA devices in small scale water supply systems in Burkina Faso. These technical documents and tools are now available to governments, NGOs and the private sector to replicate and adapt the system around the world.
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE INITIAL PROJECT
The initial project “Drinking water systems in Burkina Faso” improves access to drinking water in rural communities of Burkina Faso. For this, an active chlorine solution (6g / L), produced in-situ thanks to WATA™ technology, is injected through a metering pump into the pipes to make the water drinkable.
The project is implemented in close collaboration with the Burkina Faso Ministry of Water and Sanitation (MEA) and the Ministry of Health in 6 villages. The technology is very simple to use and maintain and the system operator can handle it alone.
KEY POINTS
- WATA™ is a simple, efficient, and almost autonomous technology for water treatment
- The chlorination is done in-situ in a room at the foot of the water tower
- In Burkina Faso, the system follows the 2013 standards issued by the government for water supply systems, implying an obligation to control the quality of the water
- This project fills the demands coming from the field, and does not create new needsMore about the project can be found in the technical note.
More about the project can be found in the technical note and in the installation document as well as in the presentation that was delivered at the knowledge sharing forum of the Fédération vaudoise de coopération FEDEVACO in 2019.
